Website Builders

Website builders are no-code tools creators can use to build websites easily, in many cases using drag and drop features and ‘What you see is what you get’.

What to look for when choosing a website builder for your website

What you should take into consideration when choosing a website builder.

Reliability

How long company has been around and who owns it? Do they have a good reputation? If you think this doesn’t matter just wait until one day they disappear and your website is gone.

This is why I don’t recommend completely free services. If the Company does not have paid users it will eventually run out the business.

Security

When setting up a website, you want to get seen and sell your products and services. Having a secure website is very important. And it will give you peace of mind and will not ruin your reputation.

Offering SSL is the bare minimum. This means that information sent between the user and the website is encrypted and is not in text format. You can take payments and use passwords only on sites with SSL (will be in the browser https://).

Don’t ever enter sensitive information on sites with http:// only.

Speed

In 2024 having a fast-loading website is very important. Users tend to be busy and have low attention span. If they can’t access your website ASAP they will bounce elsewhere.

Support

On the internet, things can go wrong, with page builders it is no exception. You want to make sure that when that day comes you will have access to support with live chat, phone, or email.

Resources

Does the Website builder company have any resources available for you to use when you get stuck?

Do they have a blog or YouTube channel?

Maybe some other tools you may need.

What is included

Look for things that are relevant to you, are they included or not?

Is there something you need lacking?

Here are a few things you may be looking for:

  • Templates
  • Extensions
  • Blog
  • Online store
  • Booking form
  • Contact form
  • Newsletter sign up
  • Multilingual sites
  • Portfolio

Ease of use

If a Website builder feels too difficult and clumsy after a week of working with it I recommend moving on and trying something else.

There is an abundance of high-quality website builders, choose one that works for you.

Pricing

Pricing matters, especially when a company has multiple different plans with restrictions.

Before you buy anything, try the free version, upgrade to a free trial, and see how things are working for you.

Take into consideration if you will need a later online store option or more space.

Conclusion

Every one of us has different preferences. I recommend choosing a website builder that is reliable, secure, easy to use, fast, and suits your current (and potential future) needs.
